Who We Are

Ridgeline (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a western big-game hunting companion app operated by Ridgeline Hunt LLC, an Oregon-registered company. We built Ridgeline to help serious hunters research gear, track draws, and prepare for hunts — and we take your privacy seriously.

If you have questions about this policy, contact us at: bryce@ridgelinehunt.com

Who Can Use Ridgeline

Ridgeline is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have done so, we will delete that information promptly.

What Information We Collect

Information you give us directly
  • Account information: Your email address and password when you register.
  • Profile information: Optional information you provide during onboarding or while using the app, which may include your home state, species you hunt, experience level, gear preferences, draw history, and hunt details. This information is optional — you can use many features without providing it.
  • Content you create: Hunt plans, gear lists, notes, and any other content you add to the app.
Information we collect automatically
  • Usage data: Pages you visit within the app, features you use, time spent, and actions you take (such as comparing broadheads or saving gear).
  • Device information: Browser type, device type, operating system, and general location data (country or region level) derived from your IP address.
  • Affiliate link interactions: When you click a gear link or retailer link within Ridgeline, we or our affiliate partners may record that click. See the Affiliate Links section below.
Information we do not collect

We do not collect your precise GPS location. Spots and areas store no coordinates of any kind. Ridgeline saves only the name you choose, the type, and any notes you write, so what a spot actually refers to on a map is known only to you. We do not access your contacts, camera, or other device features unless you explicitly grant permission for a specific feature that requires it.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and personalize the app — show you relevant gear recommendations, draw information, and content based on your profile and preferences.
  • Improve Ridgeline — understand which features are used, identify bugs, and make the app better over time.
  • Communicate with you — send account-related emails (password resets, updates) and, if you’ve opted in, product news and hunting content via our email list.
  • Understand our audience — aggregate, anonymized analytics help us make product and content decisions.
  • Comply with legal obligations — as required by applicable law.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data to serve third-party advertising.

Affiliate Links and Commercial Relationships

Ridgeline earns revenue through affiliate partnerships. When you click a product link and make a purchase through a retailer partner, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate link clicks may be tracked by us and/or our affiliate network partners (such as Impact, AvantLink, or Amazon Associates) for the purpose of crediting commissions. This tracking is standard to e-commerce affiliate programs and does not involve the sale of your personal information.

Ridgeline maintains an independent editorial standard. Affiliate relationships do not influence our gear rankings or reviews. Our four-tier system (Ridgeline Tested, Ridgeline Pick, Independently Reviewed, and Listed) is disclosed within the app.

How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use third-party services to operate Ridgeline, including Base44 (app platform), Cloudinary (image hosting), Kit (email marketing), and Cloudflare (domain and security). These providers access only the data necessary to perform their functions and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
  • Affiliate networks: As described above, affiliate click data is shared with network partners for commission tracking purposes.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Ridgeline, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers: If Ridgeline is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Photo Privacy

When you upload photos to Ridgeline — whether to your journal, blood trail logs, or animal gallery — we remove all location (GPS) data from the image file before it is stored. This is done by redrawing the photo through a canvas, which retains only the pixel data and discards all embedded metadata.

We do preserve the capture timestamp (the date and time the photo was taken) as a data value with your records — not embedded in the file itself. A timestamp is not a location: it does not reveal where you hunt. Keeping it means your photo gallery self-organizes chronologically without you having to hand-type every date.

Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing bryce@ridgelinehunt.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Your account is protected by a password you control. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep it secure.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at bryce@ridgelinehunt.com.

How We Access Your Content

Protecting the content you create is a core commitment, and your spots and areas are the most sensitive part of it. As a practical matter, operating any app requires the ability to access the data stored in it. Ridgeline is run by a single person, so that access rests with our founder.

We do not read individual content for casual review. Records are accessed only when there is a specific operational reason, such as investigating a bug you reported, responding to a support request, or confirming the app is working correctly. To understand how features are used, we rely on aggregate, anonymized data such as how many entries were created, never the content itself.

Two structural protections limit what that access can reveal. Spots and areas hold no coordinates, so no amount of access produces a map. And spot and area names are never included in any shared or licensed data, permanently, by design.

As Ridgeline grows we intend to add stronger technical limits on our own access to sensitive content, so this section reflects a technical guarantee rather than a commitment we have made. We will update this policy when that happens.

Your Choices

  • Update your information: You can update your profile and preferences from within the app at any time.
  • Email communications: You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. Transactional emails (account-related) are not affected.
  • Delete your account: Go to Profile, then Delete My Account. This deletes your account and the records in it right away; deleted records are fully purged from our systems within about 30 days. Uploaded photo files are unlinked from your account; email us if you also want the stored files removed. You can choose to keep your Blood Trail recovery logs as anonymous data, with no link to you and with photos, stories, notes, locations, exact dates and times removed. If anything goes wrong, email bryce@ridgelinehunt.com and we'll finish it for you.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Ridgeline and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and collect usage analytics. By using the app, you consent to this use. Most browsers allow you to control or disable cookies, though doing so may affect app functionality.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as Ridgeline grows and as laws change. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top and notify you via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of Ridgeline after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
